Artist Statement: "One of the few women mentioned by name in the Book of Mormon, Abish was converted to the gospel because of a "remarkable vision of her father." The grammar is ambiguous. We are left to ponder, was this vision had by her father? was it had by Abish herself of her earthly father? of her Heavenly Father? of Jesus, her spiritual father? Pondering whose vision this actually was has led me to think about how we are always encouraged to gain our own witness. I have chosen to show Abish having her own vision here, as I feel it returns her own spiritual authority and autonomy to her. Regardless of whose vision it actually was, Abish obviously did her own work of gaining a spiritual witness of Jesus Christ."
