In this instance, Nephi displays his prophetic powers by announcing to the people that their judge has been murdered. At first he is laughed at, and then he is suspected. But his ability to understand and prophesy the exact sequence of events leads the people to realize his spiritual power as a prophet. Above all, this tale reminds us of the spiritual gifts given to prophets. These are gifts we had best honor reverence. God grants wisdom and knowledge to His servants according to His own purposes. Our responsibility is to listen to these servants and conduct ourselves properly, relying on the Holy Ghost for confirmation. Unfortunately the sins and degradation of the Nephite civilization are not at an end here. Political assassinations, conspiracies, usurpations are all too prevalent at this point in the pride cycle."
