Alma (son of Alma), Sons of Mosiah

Artist statement: "I created this piece during my mission, when I was apart from my friends and family. I felt connected to Alma and the sons of Mosiah, who were preaching and serving on their own for fourteen years before finally reuniting. As a missionary, being isolated from my past life led me to turn to God in all things for support and guidance. This process allowed me to change me for the better, and as I “searched the scriptures diligently, that [I] might know the word of God,” I “waxed strong in the knowledge of the truth” and “had the spirit of prophecy, and the spirit of revelation, and when [I] taught, they [I] with power and authority of God.” I know this is what Alma and the sons of Mosiah experienced on their missions as well, and the verse “Alma did rejoice exceedingly to see his brethren; and what added more to his joy, they were still his brethren in the Lord” reminds me of my reunion with my friends after we all returned from our missions. However, I learned that we don’t need to serve missions to experience the joy of serving in God’s kingdom. It wasn’t the mission that changed us, it was God. We can all be changed by Him if we are humble and open our hearts and lives to His will. He can make more out of us than we could ever become alone, and if we let Him, He can use us as an instrument in His hands to bring His children home."
