Artist statement: "My Heavenly Mother has been so close to me yet so hidden throughout my life. She is the water, the stars, the soil and the plants. I seek her in maternal figures like my own mother, and I see her in the mothers of the Lamanite warriors. Alma 56 is one of the Book of Mormon's most remembered stories, and with my piece, I wanted to remember the-- often forgotten-- divine mother that nurtured and protected two thousand young men as they went into battle. While my womanhood is significant to my connections with maternity, I hope that every child of God can see themselves in the inner child our eternal parents have raised-- each of us so worthy of the naturally powerful love they give us, even when we cannot see it. "...They had been taught by their mothers, that if they did not doubt, God would deliver them. And they rehearsed unto me the words of their mothers, saying: We do not doubt our mothers knew it," (Alma 56:47-48)"
