Family History major, BYU. Artist statement: "The faith of Nephi, who was called to be one of the disciples of Christ when He appeared to the Nephites, is exemplary of the promise of the Lord in John 14:12 that “…He that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also…” Nephi, through his strong faith in Jesus Christ, was able to perform many of the same miracles that Christ did in His ministry. 3 Nephi 7:19 records of Nephi: “And in the name of Jesus did he cast out devils and unclean spirits; and even his brother did he raise from the dead, after he had been stoned and suffered death by the people.” In creating this painting, my models were members of my ward, people I am surrounded by everyday. It is remarkable to think that each of us, though we may not feel that we have the capacity to perform miracles or contribute significantly to the work of the Lord, can through faith in Jesus Christ and in His name be given the power and miraculous help that we need in order to accomplish the work the Lord would have us do in the latter-days. Nephi’s example can inspire us to face the challenges of our day, to be devoted disciples, and to trust that in the name of Jesus we will be able to do the work of the Lord."
