Notes

Artist statement: "The story about Lachoneus and Giddianhi has always been very interesting for me. In 3 Nephi 3, Giddianhi, who's the governor of the gadianton robbers at the time, sends an epistle to Lachoneus, who is the governor of the Nephites. In the letter, Giddianhi basically tells Nephites to join with the robbers or else they will attack the Nephites. In response, instead of giving in to the threats, Lachoneus gathers his people together and fortifies them so effectively (both physically and spiritually) that they are able to outlast the robbers. I've admired how Lachoneus handled that situation and I'm a little sad we don't talk about this story more often. What makes it even more impressive for me is that at that point, the Nephites were in a wicked period of their history, so for Lachoneus to be able to get his people humble and faithful enough as a whole to keep the Lord with them is quite the feat. I also find the contrast between the two governors fun to think about too, where Giddianhi and the rest of the Gadianton Robbers play the victim and turn away from God, Lachoneus and the Nephites do the opposite and turn to Him. I attempted to show this contrast in my submission and I hope that it illustrates it appropriately. Process Used: Digital art using Autodesk Sketchbook."
