Sociology major, BYU. Artist statement: "I painted in acrylic on canvas the Lamanite Queen and Abish, hoping to capture the moment after Abish reaches for the Queen's hand, and the Queen exclaims in faith, "O blessed Jesus, who has saved me from an awful hell! O blessed God, have mercy on this people!" (Alma 19:29). These women are powerful examples of faith and courage to me, and it is so important to me to see them represented and talked about, especially in a culture where the usual examples of people of faith and leadership are male. To see a Queen, and her servant, speak out and be respected, is so uncommon in our scripture. These women ought to be remembered, and their examples followed."
