Artist statement: "My artwork represents the relationship between Amaron and Mormon as described in the brief interaction from Mormon chapter 1. I depicted Ammaron describing to Mormon the location of the sacred records while Mormon quietly observes. Though we are not given many details, I wanted to imply that Ammaron’s relationship with Mormon was more intimate than we might initially assume. For that reason I portrayed this moment in the home. I also imagine Amaron to have worn his life out in the service of God, contrasting the prevailing wickedness around him. I find Ammaron’s description of Mormon to be impactful. “I perceive that thou art a sober child, and art quick to observe…” This description resonates with me as it reveals a deep and simple conversion to Jesus Christ within young Mormon. I believe this experience prepared Mormon for his personal visitation by the Savior Jesus Christ just a few years later. This artwork was made to inspire viewers to be “quick to observe” as Mormon was so that we too are ready for whatever will be asked of us."
