Instagram caption 08/14/2024: "Come Follow Me Wk 34: The Captain and the Usurper This week I am treating you to two different illustrations, as I felt a comparative treatment of Captain Moroni and Amalickiah was appropriate. Here we can see the traits of two men who became powerful leaders over their armies. Moroni is described as a man of God and a skilled warrior. He stands up for principles of liberty and virtue. He commands the respect of his men through his displays of courage and faith. When his men need guidance, he rallies them under the Title of Liberty, reminding them of the cause for which they fight. Truly he is the type of man that would cause the very gates of hell to shake. And then his foil, Amalickiah, the Nephite dissenter who uses all kinds of trickery, treachery, and deceit to weasel his way into power. He betrays the trust and generosity of his rescuers. He murders and overthrows the king. He frames others for his crime and creates chaos so that he can come in and establish himself as one who brings order. He is a liar and a warmonger. There could be no better contrast to the brave Captain Moroni. It is worth considering what types of leaders we follow and support. There are many Amalickiahs in the world. Perhaps we need more Captain Moroni’s..."
