Notes

Instagram caption: "We are now fully immersed in the Book of Mormon’s war chapters. Large campaigns have been launched by the Lamanites to try and conquer Nephite territory. One of the most famous of these battles is that fought by Helaman’s stripling warriors, whose faith and bravery allowed them to defeat their enemy without any loss to life. The Book of Mormon’s attitude towards war is quite interesting. The pacifism of the Anti-Nephi-Lehis is commended; they are blessed to fall by the sword for their faith. But then Moroni’s strong military defenses are also praised. Fighting in defense of liberty and family is a masculine virtue. Wars of aggression are completely condemned, and I believe that as a people we should be careful to follow this belief. The shedding of blood is extremely serious and should be a last resort to defend one’s life, liberty, and loved ones. Our world today seems mired in wars and rumors of wars, so it is instructive and comforting to know that we have counsel in this regard. We have been taught well, just as the stripling warriors were. We look to the Prince of Peace."
