Emmeline B. Wells
"In 1876, Brigham Young assigned Emmeline B. Wells, the fifth general Relief Society president, to direct a project in which women would gather and store wheat as a hedge against want and famine. He said to her: 'I want the sisters to save the grain, and I want to give you a mission.' Emmeline performed wonderful works that affected the lives of many. The women she led gleaned wheat and later purchased both wheat and fields with their own funds. The wheat was used for charitable purposes, including European relief after World War I. Because of her efforts, wheat came to symbolize the Relief Society motto 'Charity Never Faileth.' I love Emmeline B. Wells because she represents all of us as women."
