Notes

"In this image we see Eve in the Garden of Eden, sitting at the foot of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. She is pondering her immortal condition and God’s commandment to 'multiply, and replenish the earth' (Moses 2:28). Into the scene comes Satan, trying to tempt her. The lilies and sheep depicted in this painting are symbols of Jesus’s victory over death and sin, both of which will soon be introduced into the world because of Eve’s decision to partake of the forbidden fruit."
