"Longing to bring to life historic 19th-century Latter-day Saint figures, Grant began a series of portrait paintings based on daguerreotypes from the period. He chose Heber C. Kimball because of his long-standing example of faithfulness and obedience, and because Grant’s ancestor Jedediah Morgan Grant, served with him, and the two were very close. At Elder Grant’s funeral, Kimball said, 'He was valiant, and I loved him. He was a great help to us.'"
