"In this journal, Levi Ward Hancock (1803-82) recorded the events of the Mormon Battalion’s march from Fort Leavenworth, Kansas, to San Diego, California. He also depicted the landscape through which they passed. The journal is open to the page with Hancock’s sketch and description of the San Diego harbor."
