Notes

Accompanied by quote from artist: "This painting depicts two scenes: a Mormon pioneer handcart company trekking west, and the last parting glance at their temple in Nauvoo, as seen from across the Mississippi. This image would have been the last memory they had of their beautiful city and the temple they labored to build. The company is not alone in their journey—they are accompanied and guarded by angels along the way. We can echo their example in moving forward joyfully despite loss and hardship, having faith that heaven is not too far away."
