"Latter-day Saints believe that Eve, the first woman created by God, was wise. 'She is the first person on earth to understand that there is opposition in all things,' said Thorley. 'She was the first person to recognize evil,' to understand the reason why we suffer, and the first person to 'seek for light and goodness.' She is the 'mother of all living, . . . a queen and daughter of God.' Drawing on her Mexican heritage in color choices as well as foliage, Thorley depicted Eve here as wise and resolute in the Garden of Eden before and after the Fall."
