“Nanny Raiha te Ngaio was dearly loved by many in New Zealand. She was with the labor missionary program in 1950, and she cooked for the men working on the Auckland Chapel. In 1951 she came to the labor missionary project of the Church College and to the Hamilton New Zealand Temple project, where she cooked till 1954. In 1957 she helped on the Hastings Chapel. In 1961 she was again set apart as a labor missionary. She fed many missionaries who came to her door, and she was loved by all who knew her. Besides knitting, sewing, making won patterns, and quilting, she could play the piano and sing. She worked with the kia kia for the Tukutuku panels for the Polynesian Cultural Center in Laie, Hawaii. As a Latter-day Saint born in New Zealand, Nanny Raiha represents our legacy of faith.” —Sharon Matthews
