"So much optimism and happiness surrounded the city of Nauvoo and its temple in the early days of the Church. I can only imagine the hope of the Saints as they lovingly constructed the house of the Lord. Members across the world rejoiced when President Gordon B. Hinckley announced the reconstruction of the Nauvoo Temple on April 4, 1999. I believe that the early members of the Church were rejoicing in heaven as they witnessed the rebuilding and dedication of their beloved temple. This dedication, which took place more than 150 years after the destruction of the original temple, is a testament of the faith of Church members worldwide."
