"'Like many pioneers of the Mormon Trail,' said Malan, 'a woman and her daughter stand at the edge of the daunting frontier,' at the start of a long journey with an uncertain future—with clothes worn and weathered and the luxuries of life forsaken. Despite the difficulty ahead, they look resolute and determined. 'Their ordeal matches each of ours. Finding Zion demands sacrificing comfort as we contend with difficulties' at the face of uncertainty and proceed in faith."
