“The inspiration for my artwork was taken from Isaiah 29:4. It was created in two parts: the back is a bas-relief showing the Prophet retrieving the plates from the ground; the front depicts Joseph holding the Book of Mormon. My intention has been to create a realistic image of his features by using photos of the death mask for my reference. An inspiration for this piece was the celebration of Joseph Smith’s 200th birthday.” —Jennifer Postelwait
