Notes

"'In this composition, the contrast of a bright, steadfast, and beautiful edifice against a dark and ominous sky is intended to elicit a sense of longing to be inside,' said Shelley. 'Refuge from the Storm is a visual representation of the physical protection that the temple offers. It is much more a symbolic representation of the spiritual protection and sanctuary that one will find upon entering. Feelings of uncertainty, depression, anxiety, loss, and inadequacy are overcome by the spiritual safety and protection that the temple provides. It is in the temple that I have found shelter and where I have drawn closer to the Lord through prayer, meditation, and worship.'"
