Notes

"This quilt was inspired by a photograph found in the Illinois State Historical Library of historic Nauvoo. The pioneer city and the temple built there in the 19th century under difficult circumstances were important to artists Susan McBride Gilgen and Cheryl Styler because they captured the sacrifice of the faithful Saints. 'The Saints obeyed the commandment to build a temple. Surely the Lord knew of their poverty, yet He also knew how critical temple covenants would be for these fledgling Saints,' the co-artists wrote. 'Remembering this great period in our past gives us strength and courage to continue His work in the present.'"
