Notes

Artist statement: "The Temples—Nauvoo Temple was built by a group of faithful Mormon pioneers who sacrificed immensely. They had been driven from place to place because of their religious beliefs and finally turned an unwanted Illinois swamp land into a great city which rivaled Chicago at the time. The temple was barely finished and special “endowment” work was started when they were driven out once again by angry mobs who eventually destroyed the temple. The Saints once again made a heroic trek to what is now Utah establishing another new community where they could worship in peace. This painting depicts the Temples—Nauvoo Temple at a peaceful moment that winter when temple work had begun. The brewing storm overhead foreshadows what is to come in a few short weeks."
