Come, Follow Me: 1 and 2 Thessalonians

Ben Crowder, “Line Upon Line”

In his letter to the Thessalonian saints, some of whom anticipated that the second coming of Jesus Christ would come in their day, Paul clarifies that “that day shall not come except there come a falling away first” (2 Thessalonians 2:3). Following this apostasy, there was a reestablishment of truth and authority through the Restoration. This came “line upon line…here a little and there a little” (2 Nephi 28:30). Though on a church-wide scale this revelation came to Joseph Smith, we all have the same promise applicable in our individual lives, that “unto him or [her] that receiveth, God will give more” (2 Nephi 28:30).

Ben Crowder’s digital painting entitled “Line Upon Line” alludes to the incremental growth we make as we learn from revelation. Its abstracted style aligns with the often obscure nature of seeking answers to questions in a world of muddled truth. Our relationship with God is the channel through which we can receive the light of truth and revelation which ushers us closer to Him.
